WAITING FOR GODOT
50 years ago, the Vortex Theatre opened its doors with Samuel Beckett's most enduring and influential play. So much of our modern understanding of comedy has its roots in Godot-- you can see its influence all over the place, from Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead to Seinfeld. Truly an actor's play, Waiting for Godot continues to attract generation after generation of great actors to re-animate its timeless characters: Estragon, Vladimir, Lucky, and Pozzo. Director Lauren Albonico is looking for actors with a sense of play, dynamic comedic instinct and timing, and true vulnerability. From Lauren: "Although many will read this as a play where nothing happens, I disagree. I want actors who can share in my vision of how physical and playful this work can be. I believe it should be 75% comedy and 25% tragedy. The tragedy hits much harder this way."
Seeking:
4 men aged 30-70 any ethnicity
1 boy aged 8-12 any ethnicity
For any questions, or if you need to schedule a separate audition day/time, please contact the director at [email protected].
SENSE AND SENSIBILITY
Elinor and Marianne Dashwood are sisters who couldn’t be more different. Practical, thoughtful Elinor is often the caretaker of her family, and makes decisions logically; dreamy, passionate Marianne lets her feelings guide her, for good or ill, in all her choices. They must both navigate a world in which women are not in full control of their lives, a world in which marrying well is often the only option. Surrounded by family, suitors, frenemies, and gossips, they experience tragedy, joy, heartbreak, and hope, and find that their relationship with each other is the most important of all.
From Bridget: "The script, adapted by Kate Hamill, is VERY funny, and very moving, and requires actors with comic timing, playfulness, great physicality, and a joyful sense of whimsy!"
Seeking:
4-6 men/male-presenting actors, ages 25-65
4-6 women/female-presenting actors, ages 25-65
The casting of this play hopes to be as inclusive as possible. BIPOC actors are especially encouraged to audition.
The ages mentioned are suggestions only, and more indicative of the various ages of characters, not the age limit for casting.
All actors EXCEPT whoever is cast in the roles of Elinor and Marianne will play multiple characters.
English dialects are NOT required, and may not be used in the production, however a final decision has not yet been made by the director.
